On February 18, 2017, we'll join 64 cities all over the world in celebrating World IA Day again.

World IA Day is an annual gathering of tech, content and design practitioners who are passionate about designing information to make it usable, useful and strategic.

Last year, over 120 developers, designers, strategists and managers came together in Manila, to listen to seven (7) speakers who shared their experiences about architecting information for Filipinos.

Now, to follow 2016's engaging Q&A and requests from attendees, let's take things a step further and have us all participate in a hands-on activity -- a design jam.

Have you also wondered about how you -- as a designer, strategist or information architect -- can contribute your knowledge to the real design problems that affect how our government helps its citizens?

Design jams are one-day events for people who love to design, code or build products.  Similar to a hackathon, it's a moderately structured hands-on exercise where practitioners come together and solve a challenge, running anywhere between 3 hours to 48 hours.

Our guests from DTI's Negosyo Center Program will be presenting an everyday design problem that they face - specifically, one that better Information Architecture can help resolve.

Can I join The Design Jam?

This is for all of us who are Filipino information architects, UX and industrial design professionals, developers, web designers, software engineers, content managers, and taxonomists from different lines of work (whether by profession, or by interest) --

If you'll join, you will need to bring: an open mind, any design tools you may need (pens, paper, markers, laptops, chargers) and a willingness to work with a new set of people.

We'll provide sticky notes and big sheets of paper for each breakout team.

You will be grouped into multi-discipline teams, representing different types of skills or backgrounds to come up with IA output.

1:00 PM: Registration and assignment of break-out teams

2:00 PM: Introductions and Challenge Briefing (Scope, Context and Use Cases)

2:45 PM: Q&A for Clarifications

3:00 PM: Design Jam Part 1 - Creating the Information Structure - How do we best organize the data points to make it usable and useful?

3:40 PM: Coffee Break

4:00 PM: Design Jam Part 2 - Visualizing the Flow of Information - How can we best design the information to make it as effective and easy to use as possible?

5:00 PM: Start of Team Presentations with Q&A

6:30 PM: Wrap-up and Closing Remarks

Getting to IA Day - Manila

A SPACE Philippines is helping us bring World IA Day to Manila.

Beyond being the leading coworking space, A SPACE is also home to many local and global events for the creative community.

Manila's IA Day venue, the _GALLERY at A SPACE Makati is across Greenbelt 5, on Legazpi Street.

Coming from the Ayala MRT Station, you can get to A SPACE by walking along Palm Drive (the road behind Glorietta). Turn right at Makati Avenue, and walk to the Greenbelt overpass (or cross the road to the Ayala Museum).

Legazpi St. is the street behind the Ayala Museum block (on the other side of Greenbelt 5, as you can see in the Google Map route attached below. Link to Google Maps in the photo).

Bringing a car?

If you're part of the car-driving population, A SPACE Philippines is right across the Greenbelt 5 drop-off point, which is next to the Greenbelt 1 parking entrance.

BYOB (Bring-Your-Own-'Baon')

noun Tagalog
1 : Money, food, or other provisions taken to school, work, or on a journey

We'd like to be upfront with you about something.
As a free and non-profit community event, we won't be able to give out free lunch for World IA Day 2016 (We'll try to get interested concessionaires next year).

Since the ticket is free, we'd like to ask you to "BYOB" (bring-your-own-baon), or be prepared to buy lunch in one of the restaurants or fast food places along Legazpi St., or in Greenbelt 5 or 1.
We'll have a quick lunch break from 11:45 to 12:30 between the talks. Thanks for bearing with us!

Your Ticket

We want to welcome everyone, but we'll need to prioritize ticket-holders during registration, because this will be a working session and participants will be assigned groups.  Please register on the Eventbrite page so we can have your updated details for group assignments and sponsor giveaways.

And because we want to pack as much value into IA Day Manila...

Registration opens at 1:00PM, on February 18. This will give us ample time to tell you your team assignment, introduce you to your team members and give you an overview of our activity flow before the challenge briefing at 2:00PM.

Latecomers will have a harder time integrating themselves into their working teams - especially if you miss the Q&A with the DTI team.

An open mind and a pen (or pencil)

We'll have two short hands-on activities for IA Day.

But, don't worry, they won't require moving around, since space is a bit tight.
Just be prepared to absorb some work stories. And, be open to asking or answering questions from our speakers.

A Request

We'd love to meet you on IA Day.  But if, by any chance, you suddenly can't make it, could you do us a bit of kindness and inform us, so we can open up some ticket slots for others?  Or, you can always give that spot to an interested friend :) Our Eventbrite tickets are transferable.
